Cloudscape. Stories

Natalia Kobrynska was one of the first feminists in Galicia. In her writing she consistently addressed questions of women’s education, moral choice and the right to a voice.

Her work explores identity as a conscious choice rather than the automatic acceptance of a social role. Kobrynska masterfully combines folk language with literary prose, creating vivid stories about fear and loss. She shows how even in difficult circumstances a person can find dignity and inner strength.

This collection includes some of the writer’s key works — Yanova, The Voter, Cloudscape — as well as stories about children and the worlds they begin to discover for themselves: The Traitor, The Old Clock, The First Teacher.
