Latent Figures

“Slanted” is a German publishing house known for producing high-quality and thoughtfully designed books on design and typography. Its magazine of the same name is its most popular project, but we especially appreciate its books for their unconventional topics and carefully crafted design.

This book was created by designer and researcher Jannis Maroscheck, who developed a visual language using algorithms and AI, drawing inspiration from a wide range of sources — from Y2K aesthetics to medieval symbols, stock icons and hieroglyphs. The process was intended to mimic how humans search for inspiration, while clearly being far more analytical and systematic.

The publication functions as a kind of dictionary of algorithmic visual language.
