The “Non-Canonical Canon” series is a way to talk about those we did not know, whose texts we read without understanding the context of their time. It brings together a wide range of Ukrainian authors and their works. Each text is accompanied by reading guides by Ukrainian literary scholars.

Mike Yohansen was a Ukrainian avant-garde writer who once admitted he never hesitated to break yet another rule. This approach defined his style — dismantling conventions and creating new poetics from their fragments.

This edition includes his most iconic works: the ironic, parodic novel The Journey of the Learned Doctor Leonardo and His Future Beloved, the Beautiful Alcesta, to Slobozhanska Switzerland, the key text for understanding his method How a Story Is Built, and selected poetry.
