DVRZ

DVRZ is a documentary-poetic text about the residents of an industrial neighbourhood on Kyiv’s Left Bank. Anga Zelena moved there as a child and lived there throughout the first three decades of Ukrainian independence.

In the 1990s, the neighbourhood’s isolated social system collapsed, setting its community on a path of painful transformation. HIV, alcohol, suicide, vint, opiates, methadone. Many of the author’s peers died, and this work honours their memory.

The text pays particular attention to the experiences of women, girls, and mothers. The book concludes with a chapter about those who joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine following the start of russia’s full-scale invasion.
