DIY 2: Garden sculpture and wall painting

The second part of a visual study of spontaneous, non-professional art emerging within the urban environment. The zine features a selection of photographs taken across different cities in Ukraine, documenting unique forms of artistic expression created by local residents in apartment building entrances, courtyards, on façades, and on utility structures.

ZHEK-ART is a naïve, sincere, and at times absurd aesthetic born from the urge to organise and improve one’s surroundings, a sense of beauty, or simply the desire for self-expression. Painted benches and walls, peculiar inscriptions, and homemade decorative elements come together to form a distinctive urban landscape.
