Where Curating Is

Where Curatorship Is: The Artist as Curator and the Curator as Artist, compiled and edited by Kateryna Nosko and Valeriia Lukianets, is a collection of essays and interviews addressing a wide range of questions surrounding curatorial practice in Ukraine. By focusing on a shared subject, the book allows differing — and at times opposing — perspectives to coexist within a single volume, creating a snapshot of subjective views on what curating means today and where it manifests as an immaterial practice. At the same time, these reflections on the figure of the curator inevitably return to the issue of ethical norms in relationships between curators and artists — perhaps the most pressing question of all.
The texts included in the publication emerged from conversations between the editors and curators and artists from various Ukrainian cities, all of whom have experience both collaborating with curators and developing their own curatorial practices. The book features texts based on interviews with artists and curators including Open Group (Yuriy Biley, Anton Varga, Pavlo Kovach, Stanislav Turina), Masoch Foundation (Ihor Diurych, Ihor Podolchak), Yuriy Leiderman, Arsen Savadov, Lesia Zaiats, Mykola Ridnyi, Kseniia Hnylytska, Lada Nakonechna, Mykyta Kadan, Alevtina Kakhidze, Oleksandr Roitburd, Tiberiy Silvashi, Serhiy Bratkov, Yuriy Sokolov, Vlodko Kaufman, Mykola Kolomiiets, Pavlo Makov and Oleksandr Soloviov.
