Beyond the Image

Today, we no longer believe in images. This distrust is partly a consequence of technological development. From brainrot to deepfakes, from NFTs to careless content, the function of the image is no longer to represent reality, but merely to reproduce capital.

Within digital culture, another way of engaging with the image is taking shape — one that moves beyond post-truth and deepfakes. From the Kardashians to Donald Trump, from Pepe the Frog to Paris Hilton, the nihilism of the image is now at the height of its popularity.

Beyond the Image is an attempt to reassess visual culture in an age of video monetisation and artificial intelligence. Soon, the same eyes filled with the light of the screen begin to see what lies beyond it.
