Aura. Four Essays on Photography
650₴
Walter Benjamin’s contribution to the theory of photography is contained in just four key essays, collected in this volume: News about Flowers, Little History of Photography, The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction, and The Paris Letter: Painting and Photography.
In these essays, the philosopher reflects on the power of the medium to transform consciousness, memory, and our perception of reality—and, consequently, political reality itself. Central to Benjamin’s thinking is the concept of the aura: the unique presence and authenticity of a work of art, which photography challenges through mechanical reproducibility. Yet this loss of aura is ambivalent: it weakens tradition and ritual while simultaneously making art accessible to the masses and opening it up to political intervention.
