Each issue revolves around a theme, usually featuring playful and interactive covers, alongside interviews, essays and a huge amount of illustrations. FUKT #23 — The Sound Issue explores the point where sound and drawing intersect, interrupt one another and create new ways of seeing. How can rhythm, voice or noise be translated onto paper? What does sound look like when it cannot be heard, only seen? The issue moves through graphic scores, musical structures, vibration, resonance and listening practices. Artists transform sound into visual gestures and images into rhythm: some work with the pulse of music, others explore electromagnetic fields, whale songs or the internal noise of thoughts and memory. The issue features works by Christine Sun Kim, Raven Chacon, Hildur Guðnadóttir, Brian Eno and many others — over thirty artists in total, each sensing, seeing and translating sound in different ways.
