Notes on Living

Edited by Max Oyliets, this anthology brings together works by contemporary Ukrainian writers reflecting on the experience of living through war and the challenges of the present day. The collection includes short stories, essays, diary entries, and poetry that explore social divisions and the psychological state of people today.

The authors address such themes as language policy, soldiers’ dreams, wartime urban architecture, Western fatigue, shame, and radical forms of care. Through personal stories and reflections, they invite readers to consider what a post-war society might look like and what values it might be built upon.

The publication also features two series of illustrations by David Chychkan and Marharyta Polovinko—artists who were killed in 2025 while defending Ukraine on the front line.
