The first installment of John Updike’s tetralogy about former basketball star Harry “Rabbit” Angstrom. His youthful athletic glory is long behind him and now Harry lives in a typical American suburb of the 1960s, struggling with an identity crisis, selling kitchen appliances and constantly arguing with his wife. He feels lost and trapped in a routine he desperately wants to escape. Throughout his journey Harry searches for answers without even being able to formulate the questions. Updike dismantles the Kerouac-style myth of escape, rebellion and freedom: his protagonist moves toward destruction rather than self-discovery. This cult 1960s novel is published in Ukrainian for the first time.
